Sur La Table gets our highest recommendation for transparency about where products are made
Sur La Table gets my highest recommendation for transparency. Click on the “SPECS” tab for any product on their site to learn exactly where it is made. Click below to shop.
One of the most difficult aspects of trying to find products made in free countries is that sellers don’t reveal where products are made. This applies both to offline and online purchases. We have seen stores place the price tag directly on top of the “Made in” disclosure. Usually, the tag seems to hide the name of some communist country that we would not want to buy from. Sometimes the sellers dodge the question by saying that an item is “imported.” Unfortunately, it makes a big difference to us if the product is imported from a free country (like Brazil or Italy) versus a not-free country (like China or Vietnam).
We have long loved shopping at Sur La Table, not only because they have many products made in free countries (they do), but also because they are transparent about where their products are made. For any product on the Sur La Table web site, the “SPECS” tab will tell you exactly where it is made, whether the country is France, Italy, USA, or China.
It may seem like a small thing, but transparency around country of origin is key to our mission at ShopFreedom. Sometimes it feels like everything is made in a place that is unfriendly to freedom. Three cheers to Sur La Table for letting us know.
Sur La Table believes that we should: “Make good Food. Invite people. Do it daily.” We love this idea. If you want to get better at cooking, we also recommend the cooking lessons offered by Sur La Table. Finally, if you are going to buy something for the kitchen as a gift, show you care by giving a product made in a free country. SLT makes it easy.
